Budgeting Could Change Your Life!
In an effort to take control of our finances, I begin creating a budget. I thought I was budgeting, in my mind anyway. I would keep a mental note of what was in the bank and about how much we were spending, so I thought. Then one day I decided to put our budget in a more tangible medium. I went online and used a free budgeting tool to input our income, expenses and other spending.
What I discovered was heartbreaking. We were spending way too much. The numbers told the truth and I was grieved over how irresponsible we had been with our finances. It was a wakeup call forsure. I could not believe what I was seeing. I called my husband into the room so that he could also take a look at the ugly monster we had created. That moment I said a prayer of repentance. Godly sorrow hit me like a ton of bricks, as they say. It was a revelation I needed to see and acknowledge. It was tough to swallow but it was also freeing.
Now I knew exactly what we needed to do so that the monster could die once and for all. From now on we would budget every cent that came in and out of our lives. Additionally, we went on a spending freeze, if it was not a need, we were not buying it. We had to makeup for lost time and our years of poor stewardship. I am so thankful that we serve the God of reconciliation and restoration. Now I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. It was going to take us a few years to get from under the bondage of debt and increase our savings. This problem did not happen overnight and would not be solved overnight. Yet, I moved forward hopeful and encouraged.
If you don’t have a plan and budget I would urge you to create one today. Look at your bank account and add up your expenses in categories. Take a serious look at your finances and see where your money is going. Do you need to make adjustments? Maybe you need a side hustle to increase income. I would also urge you to pray and ask God for guidance in this area. Search the Scriptures and find out what the Word as to say about your finances. If you have not been a good steward over what God has given you, it is never too late to repent. Ask God for forgiveness and start over today.
