This post was written by my sister Selina. She has been a public school teacher for almost 20 years. She is currently teaching fifth grade. Many of her suggestions are also good for us homeschooling parents.
Education is the process by which people grow and broaden their minds. However, in order for your mind to retain information, there are a number of things that you should do to prepare to learn.
The first and most important thing to do is pray. No matter how young your child may be, they should always be taught to start each day with prayer. Secondly, parents should make sure that their children get an adequate amount of sleep each night. Studies show that school age children who sleep at least 9-10 hours each night tend to do better academically than students who get less sleep.
Next, children should get a nutritional breakfast each morning. There’s nothing like a nice bowl of Cheerios and a piece of fruit in the morning to get your brain pumping.
Last but not least, get organized! If the parents are organized, the children will learn to be organized and this will cut down on a lot of those hectic mornings when suddenly you hear ” I can’t find my shoe!”
I know with back to school there are lot of mixed feelings. Nevertheless, if you follow these few steps, I guarantee that bottle of headache medicine will be obsolete this year.
